Refuge: Facebook CHALLENGEs

In 2020, Refuge launched its Facebook fundraising challenges, which run over the course of a month and have included challenges such as ‘100 Squats a Day’ and ‘Walk 56 Miles in February’. These challenges are ongoing and there are now several a year, with thousands of participants per challenge. Challenge members raise money through Facebook Fundraising and join a community in the Facebook groups devoted to the challenges.

Nowhere created the brand styles for the series. For each new challenge we create all digital assets, Facebook content, print and digital fundraising packs, achievement medals, and bespoke t-shirts.

Refuge’s first Facebook challenge was launched in April 2020 – in fact, Refuge was the first UK charity to run a Facebook fundraiser during the pandemic. 5,250 people signed up and raised a total of £115,540. In 2021, ’62 miles in August’ raised £355,000. Each challenge builds on stats from the last to create content that motivates, engages and educates fundraisers and creates a real community. This feedback informs the design, which has evolved with the challenges.
